# Using NFC/RFID for access control

In Qomeet, [access control](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/pass-control-hzxk9b/) can be carried out either via passes (QR codes printed on badges or [published](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/publish-passes-f8z6cd/) on participants' personal spaces) or via NFC/RFID chips (badges, cards, wristbands, etc.). To use NFC/RFID chips for access control, it is necessary to associate the NFC/RFID chips with participants via the [Qomeet Access](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/install-the-access-control-application-and-initialize-a-control-device-o55hqj/) app.

| Passes (QR codes) and NFC/RFID chips can be used in parallel: even if an NFC/RFID chip is associated with a participant, their QR code will still work.

In order for an operator to be able to associate NFC/RFID chips with participants, this option must be enabled in the operator's rights, in the menu **Access > Operators**.

### Associating an NFC/RFID chip with a participant


You can associate an NFC/RFID chip with a participant using the [Qomeet Access app](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/install-the-access-control-application-and-initialize-a-control-device-o55hqj/). The operator must have the necessary rights to perform this operation. Here is the steps to follow:


1. [Initialize your control device](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/install-the-access-control-application-and-initialize-a-control-device-o55hqj/#3-initialize-a-control-device) and [log in as an operator](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/pass-control-hzxk9b/#3-login-as-an-operator).

2. Go to the **Associate RFID chips** option.

3. Select a participant from the list, search by first/last name, or scan their pass. Participants who have already been associated with a chip are indicated by a green icon.

4. Hold the RFID chip close to the reader and click **Confirm pairing**.

5. If you try to assign a chip already in use to a new participant, you will be alerted. You will then have the choice of reassigning the chip or canceling the operation.

### Dissociate an NFC/RFID chip from a participant


1. [Initialize your control device](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/install-the-access-control-application-and-initialize-a-control-device-o55hqj/#3-initialize-a-control-device) and [log in as an operator](https://help.qomeet.com/en/article/pass-control-hzxk9b/#3-login-as-an-operator).

2. Go to the **Associate RFID chips** option.

3. Select a participant from the list, search by first/last name, or scan their pass.

4. Click on **Unpair the chip**.
